Republicans care so little about our access to healthcare they shut down the government rather than compromise with Democrats.

Here are the facts:

Trump's Big "Beautiful" Bill cuts nearly $11 billion from Medicaid.
New Mexicans rely on Medicaid at one of the highest rates in the country, and 175,000 of us will lose benefits, around half of them children.  New cost-sharing and work requirements will squeeze families even more than they are already.  https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/states-face-hard-choices-after-major-cuts-to-federal-health-care-funding

Trump's Bad "Beautiful" Bill puts rural hospitals at risk.
As many as 15 New Mexico hospitals will be forced to cut services or even go out of business. Veterans' medical services are harder to access because of staffing cuts.  Tribal communities, agricultural and ranching communities and veterans all will suffer from reduced access. https://www.newamerica.org/better-life-lab/reports/health-work-and-care-rural-america/distances-to-travel-to-hospital-based-health-care/ and https://nm.news/2025/06/18/u-s-senators-warn-15-new-mexico-hospitals-likely-to-close-if-big-beautiful-bill-cuts-become-law/

Republicans will let subsidies for Obamacare expire in December.
This would double premiums for over 75,000 New Mexicans, 17,000 in Congressional District 2.  Health insurance for the average family in southern New Mexico will rise nearly $600 per month!  What was affordable will be driven out of reach by "conservative" health care policies.

"Under current law, the ACA enhanced premium tax credits (EPTC) are set to expire at the end of this year, doubling premiums for over 17,000 residents of New Mexico’s second district who purchase insurance through the ACA marketplace. Without intervention, this expiration would drive up monthly health insurance costs for the average family by nearly $600 per month."
