Families and Education
This is what good government looks like
New Mexico has made a "cradle to career" investment in families that is paying off.
New Mexico leads the nation in reducing child poverty.
Recent U.S. Census Bureau data show that New Mexico reduced child poverty by 3.2%, the biggest drop nationwide. The national child poverty rate fell just 0.4%.
Yes, it’s still too high and we have further to go. But New Mexico is no longer at the bottom of the list. In fact, when the Census Bureau accounts for other factors such as benefits programs and the cost of living in New Mexico, our child poverty rate is better than the national average.
